Paulina Noriega, 26 years old, from Mexico City says…
“I love Barbie dolls. I got them since I was a little child, and once I grew up, I started to collect them instead of playing with them. When collecting them was not enough, I began to customize them, at first making their clothes by myself, and then giving them a new make up, or new hair, some for refresh their old looks, and some just for the nostalgia of make a doll of my childhood look as gorgeous as she did when she was new.
At the same time, another of my passions is Eurythmics´s music. I was introduced to their music back in 1999, when they released their album Peace, after 10 years of been working in their personal projects. My fave half of this duo is the female vocalist Annie Lennox. She´s not only the most amazing voice I´ve ever heard , but a talented woman, who has always characterized herself as a multifaceted singer, reinventing herself through the years.
The most amazing thing for me would be to have my own Annie lennox doll!!!!! It would be awesome if she was released in a doll form, like Mattel did with some singers like Debbie Harry, Cindi Lauper and Joan Jett, under the line called LADIES OF THE EIGHTIES. Since there are no possibilities for that to happen, for now, it seems that my only option is customize a doll by myself.
Something that I couldn´t do at first without the valuable help from Angela….
Angela seems to have an extra sense to observation and a fine ability to analyze facial features. She has surprised me indeed, showing me celebrities and the dolls that matches with their facial features. She had been able to find resemblances between the most incredible characters (person –-doll and doll–doll), which is truly amazing!
Ok, if it was not enough, I asked Angela about a male doll to fit with a well known British pop figure who was part of one of the most incredible bands in history. I´m talking about George Harrison from The Beatles. Since I love his work with The Beatles, and later his solo albums, it is natural that I want to have any kind of merchandising about him. Of course there are dolls for every member of the band, but there are mostly dolls kinda caricature.
I´m looking for a “more realistic Beatle doll”. And Angela did it again!!! There are a couple of options I could work on to create it, but I rather concentrate on one doll at the time, so I´m planning to get the doll to customize as the Lennox doll at first. Of course it would be awesome to have not just the George doll, but the 4 Beatles dolls!!!After all, I want to recreate those celebrities as close as I can.
I would hate to make a customized doll with a poor resemblance to the celebrity (as a lot of singers and actresses dolls are) or have a bizarre result.
We even had discussed about these weird results of some celebrities´s dolls, and I mean dolls from important Toys makers, when they supposed to be a replica of some determinate person, but for some strange reason the final product has the less resemblance with the celebrity, even with the great attempt to create the celebrity´s basic facial structure on the doll.
I still don´t understand how artists like TLC, Spice girls, B-witched accepted to put their names on dolls that looks as their replicas does, that goes from low quality to a really spooky dolls.
The most important thing to begin an OOAK doll for a particular person is to have the closest headmold that approaches to him/her . Once you got it, the customization (reroot, repaint, outfits and accessories if it´s necessary) will complement the whole work!!!
Since there are a lot of head molds to customize, and not only from Barbie dolls, but from any kind of fashion dolls, I´m currently purchasing the dolls Angela suggested me to get who fits with Lennox´s features and diverse looks throughout the years, and I can´t wait to start to work on it!
I think this can be a really interesting project, since Annie Lennox has got all kind of looks from the early eighties, when she was the half of Eurythmics, to the 90´s with her solo career, and lately with the Eurythmics´s reunion.
So, there are a lot of possibilities on the direction to take my OOAK projects!!!!!No matter what´s the reason to customize a doll, maybe to recreate someone you admire or maybe just because you love to give dolls a personal touch, anyway, this is a great hobby.”

Danielle from the United States says…
“I have been working with Angela for several months on various repainting projects. I was immediately impressed with her ability to see past a doll’s factory paint and truly see the potential of several different facial molds. She provides examples of possible molds for my projects very quickly. Not only that, but she tailors the results for me. If I’m interested in a partial repaint, a full repaint and reroot , or if I can do no repainting at all! I work with many doll friends who often do repaints and I know Angela will be an awesome resource for them. I often wonder if she sees 1:1 humans as doll molds just waiting to be repainted in their likeness!
Working with her is such a joy, I can hardly wait until my next repaint!”
